Nofollow is a value that can be assigned to the rel attribute of an HTML an element to instruct some search engines that the hyperlink should not influence the ranking of the link’s target in the search engine’s index.


Facts
1. While nofollow is included in the HTML 5 specs — and in the HTML 4 specs before that — it was not created by the W3C. Rather, it was created by cooperation between three major search engine companies — Google, Yahoo and Microsoft — as well as major blogging platforms, and announced on January 18, 2005- .searchengineland.com
